Sunday 14th April, 2012.
Percy Park 54, Horden 12.

Park maintained their winning run with this result against a depleted Horden side who showed commendable spirit and a lot of collective and individual ability all through the game. Both winger Alex Wright and full back Jamie Wrigley ran in hat tricks in what was Park’s 14th consecutive success. In a game that was played on the 1st XV pitch, Wright thrillingly outpaced the defence along the right flank for the first try which was quickly followed by Wrigley’s first of the match, a characteristically speedy and side stepping run.

Seven changes to the starting XV made little difference to Park as they quickly established control of the game. There were hat tricks for outside centre Kyle Sutherland and full back Jamie Wrigley while winger Josh Cheung ran in his first try for the club.

An irresistible 34 point second half surge ensured that a depleted Park side extended its winning run to 11 games. The victory also means that the team has achieved the distinction of beating all the eight other teams in Northumberland during the season.

U13 v Alnwick - County Cup Semi Final

E-mail Print PDF
Percy Park 36, Alnwick 7.

Park booked a place in next month's County Cup Final  with an impressive win that was harder fought than the seemingly emphatic score line suggests: the difference being that Park took their chances and scored some blistering tries.

To their credit the Alnwick players battled hard from start to finish, giving everything in the rucks and mauls and presented Park with problems with the ball in hand.

The visitors began strongly and were the dominant force for approximately the opening ten minutes during which full back Jamie Wrigley  had to produce a try saving tackle to prevent Park from going behind.

Park weathered the storm and after scoring on two thrillingly  swift counter attacks, the destiny of the game was in the home side's  hands. Outside centre Kyle Sutherland and Wrigley were the scorers.

Apart  a five minute second half spell in which the visitor's scored a try that their sportsmanship and competitive spirit deserved, Park were the dominant force. Inside centre Sebastian Reece ran in a try, scrum half Peter Musgave's  darting run ended with another five pointer and captain Niall Combe won the ball in a line out and dropped over the line to touch it down.

Possibly the best try (definately the quickest!) of the lot was Wrigley's straight from the restart of the second half of the game. Musgrave successfully kicked three out of six conversion attempts.

A short match report this as it is worth reading one of the coaches' comments on the individual performances.
Aaron - suberb in lineout and secure under the high ball
Adam S - excellent support of the back row and some telling charges at the breakdown
Dan – stole opposition ball at the ruck for the last try of the first half; took one against the head, dominated a much bigger opponent
Joe – drove the ball on and secure under the high ball
Elliott – tireless at the breakdown and in support
Ross – never stopped running and provided a vital link between forwards and backs
Jake – competed for every loose ball and ran hard
Niall – scored – simply awesome – led by example
Peter – superb distribution and well taken try
Jamie – new running dimension which countered the flat (offside) defence, great breaks
Seb – massive in defence and attack, solid platform
Kyle – most dangerous player on the park
Alex – always a danger, solid in defence
George – injured in tackle whilst bravely taking the ball on
Jack – brave beyond reason and never took a backward step
Jamie – just breathtaking

U13 v Berwick

Percy Park 55,  Berwick 5.

Park made it 10 wins in a row with full back Jamie Wrigley running in an impressive hat trick of tries. There were also two tries apiece for new centre Kyle Sutherland and flying right winger Alex Wright. Second/back row forward Joe Oldham once again demonstrated his finishing ability by opening the scoring with a characteristically bullish short range effort. The conversion attempt from wide was missed but Park quickly increased their advantage when Wrigley scythed through the Berwick defence. Scrum half Peter Musgrave was successful with his second kick to make it 12-0.
